General surgeries and clinics
There are morning and afternoon surgeries held by the doctors for general medical problems. Not all doctors are available on every day.
Urgent problems
We will always see patients who feel that their problem is urgent on the same day, or suggest a alternative course of action if we feel this is more appropriate.
Women’s health / family planning
Prescribing of the contraceptive pill is usually done in routine surgery hours, as is advice regarding all types of contraception, by appointment. We fit intrauterine contraceptive devices (coils) and fit and remove Implanon. Cervical smears are generally carried out by our practice nurses, who can also carry out pill checks and offer advice on Hormone Replacement Therapy and breast checks.
Long term health conditions
Most patients who suffer from diabetes are offered an appointment with a nurse at regular intervals (usually every 6 months). The asthma clinic is for the regular review of asthmatics concentrating on education about asthma and the proper use of asthma inhalers and medicines. We also provide regular follow up for patients with other long term health problems such as chronic airways disease, chronic heart disease, epilepsy and mental health problems.
Antenatal clinics
These clinics are carried out by our visiting community midwife, who will arrange for you to see a doctor if she feels it is necessary.
Minor surgery
We carry out minor surgery on the premises. These are carried out by one of the GPs who is experienced and qualified in this area. If we do not feel we can carry out the procedure for you we will arrange for a referral to someone else. A prior consultation is required to assess suitability and you should make an appointment in a normal surgery for this. We can also carry out various injections and cryotherapy (freezing skin lesions), often during normal surgery.
